Badia Prataglia offers pilgrims a welcome break, as it’s only about 8 km from the start of Stage 5. The town serves national park visitors year-long. Pilgrims will arrive early in the day, making it possible to eat both lunch and dinner in town.

Booking Recommendation

Book your stay on day of hike or night before. Note: Rifugio Casanova is only open on Weekends. Consider this alternative: Walk further to Rifugio Casa Santicchio and getting a jump-start on Stage 6.

Italy’s Oldest Arboretum

In the center of Badia Prataglia, pilgrims are invited to visit Italy’s oldest Arboretum, Museo Forestale e Arboreto “Carlo Siemoni”. The site was created by Bohemian forest engineer Carlo Siemoni in the mid-1800s as an experiment to acclimatize exotic and native forest species.  

It features 139 species of trees from all over the world, including giant sequoias, Spanish fir, cryptomeria from Japan.
